NASHUA, NH (July 4, 2013) Featured new work by Nashua-based watercolor and acrylic artist Monty Whitfield will display throughout July and August at Nashua Public Library’s Image Gallery. The exhibition will introduce Whitfield’s new Visionary line of art as well as some earlier pieces, which are inspired by nature, culture, ancient civilizations and now science. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, August 3 from 1-3pm at the library, offering an opportunity to view nearly a dozen of Whitfield’s newest paintings and speak personally with him about his work.

Whitfield introduced his Visionary line to much acclaim in a one-man show in May at the NH Art Association’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery (east gallery). Featured work included "Chaco Canyon: Where the Sun Meets the Moon." He describes his new work as akin to finding life in a new galaxy, on a newly found planet teeming with life. "My new line of art is full of exploration and experimentation," said Whitfield. "It infuses the wondrous world of science, that at times feels and looks like science fiction." Prevalent themes in his latest work include black holes, pulsars, quasars, bubble theory and parallel realities as well as Nikolai Tesla and the periodic table. Complex imagery and richly intense hues harken back to his earlier collection, yet Whitfield’s most recent work transports the viewer to far different vistas.

An award-winning watercolor and acrylic artist, Whitfield’s earlier pieces incorporate his love of ancient culture with elements of nature. The result is an intricate fusion of fine detail and character, striking colors and subject matter, immediately drawing the viewer into Whitfield’s world. A juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association, Whitfield is affiliated with the National Watercolor Society and the Sharon Arts Center in Peterborough, New Hampshire. His painting, "Golden Eagle," is in the permanent collection of Nashua City Hall and his award-winning paintings are featured in galleries throughout the Northeast.
Whitfield’s work will also be featured in the 60th annual Greeley Park Outdoor Art Show on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 from 10am to 5pm each day. Some of his newest work will be on display, comprised of paintings created throughout the early to mid-summer. Whitfield will be discussing the Visionary exhibition at Nashua Public Library and the Greeley Park show in an interview with radio host Kevin Willett on Monday, July 15 on the "Friends of Kevin" show on 1590AM.
